A Reiki treatment begins with the recipient's and practitioners mutual comfort. You should arrive at your session in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. There is no need to remove any clothing for treatment, but tight fitting or restrictive clothing may cause discomfort.

You should also remove excess jewelry and watches and leave these at home. Metal articles sometimes interfere with the flow of Reiki energy.

Wear socks as you will be asked to remove your shoes, and the body temperature can cool due to deep relaxation associated with Reiki. You will be asked to remove all jewelry and your eyeglasses to increase your comfort.

Our work together will include a shared understanding of what you hope to accomplish as well as agreements for supporting those outcomes. Although I will share my skills and abilities with you, my journey with you is only a resource. As an intentional and conscious participant in your growth, you will ultimately take all responsibilities for, and actions related to, your health and well-being.

I do not diagnose conditions nor I do prescribe substances or perform medical treatment. I also do not interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional. Reiki will be a supplement to any medical or psychological care that you may be receiving.

The sessions are typically scheduled to be 60-90 minutes in length.

During this time we will discuss your concerns and reasons for the energy work and review what has occurred during the treatment.

It is advised not to drink alcohol at least 24hrs before the treatment and drink plenty water before and after the session.  Also, get a good rest after treatment. The excess water will assist your body to flush out the toxins stored in the kidneys and liver.

You will be fully dressed, I administer Reiki by "laying my hands" in certain point keys in the client body, but if the client is not comfortable with touch, Reiki may also be administered keeping my hands a few inches away from the client’s body.

Reiki will be performed lying flat on a padded massage table. Pillows can be used under your knees and head for your comfort. The Reiki session with begin with the recipient lying face up during the treatment session. A typical Reiki

session will take about 60-90 minutes (one hour). Use of soothing music during the session at very low volume to help increase the relaxation response. Dim lighting is also desirable.

The Reiki treatment itself consists of the practitioner placing their hands gently on or slightly above the clients body to start the flow of Reiki energy. There are no complicated rituals to perform. Only the simple exchange of energy between two people. Only the simple intent to share healing. Only the desire to ease the burdens of another and the willingness to receive.

The Reiki energy itself is intelligent for it knows where to go and what to do. The Reiki practitioner does not direct the energy nor is it necessary to study complex theories of the universe in order to use it. It is simply the intent which causes the Reiki energy to flow and intent which directs it. The best thing for the practitioner to do is nothing, but to allow the energy to do its work.

There is a treatment protocol traditionally taught to Reiki practitioners which involves a series of hand positions. These positions are well spaced along the clients body and together they provide good coverage of the clients entire body. While the energy does go where it is most needed, it is frequently observed that it stays near where the practitioned has placed his or her hands. By covering all parts of the body evenly the patient will, by default, get the best treatment possible. These hand positions are a good place for a practitioner to begin practicing Reiki.

An experienced Practitioner will deviate from the traditional hand positions as needed by the moment and in concert with the client's needs. Most Reiki practitioners use intuition or other methods to say which positions are to be used in each healing, varying from the traditional positions as the situation warrants. One common method is the sweep in which the practitioner sweeps his or her hands through the clients energy field looking for hot spots. These indicate places needing healing energy. Hand positions vary along the length of the body, from the head, face, neck, throat, heart region, stomach, hips, thighs, calves and feet, and corresponding positions along the back.

Following your treatment, your Practitioner will gently wake you from your twilight meditative state. Very often during treatment you will drift into a twilight state of awareness. While fully aware you may be in a deep state of relaxation. This is an important and desirable altered state of awareness, but you must be be brought back into a fully-conscious state in a gentle manner. You will be allowed to rest comfortably and offered a drink of water. Once you are more alert, your practitioner may give you feedback as to what she or he observed during the session; in turn, you will have an opportunity to share your experience.

The feeling of rest and relaxation will stay with you for hours or even days following treatment. It is the Joy of Reiki that you can only understand and appreciate after your first session.
